Water is released by the guinea pig, rabbit or chicken pushing down on the stainless rod, which breaks the seal and lets water into the bowl.

I have added some photos to show how we use them with black 13mm ldpe pipe. Black pipe stops the build up of algae that occurs with clear plastic tubing. I take a small piece of 8mm clear tubing, wrap it with thread tape, then clamp black tubing over it. Pressure is only 2-3psi as our water supply is from a 200L poly barrel sitting just above ground level. Bury the black pipe to keep the water cool.
