Description

The VL53L0X is a compact time-of-flight ranging sensor using ST's FlightSense technology to measure distance by detecting infrared laser light reflections. It functions as a self-contained lidar system, reporting distances up to 2 m (6.6 ft) with 1 mm resolution. Accuracy ranges from ±3% to ±10% depending on conditions and target characteristics.

The sensor communicates via I²C, with additional pins for shutdown and interrupt. Its small LGA package and 2.8 V operation can be challenging, but the breakout board simplifies interfacing with 3.3 V or 5 V microcontrollers.

Pin Descriptions:

• VDD: 2.8 V output or input (if VIN disconnected).
• VIN: Main 2.6–5.5 V power supply.
• GND: Ground connection.
• SDA/SCL: Level-shifted I²C data/clock lines (HIGH = VIN, LOW = 0 V).
• XSHUT: Active-low shutdown input; defaults to enabled.

This breakout board enables easy use of the VL53L0X while retaining its small size.
